The physical specimen was examined by Darrell Ubick, who determined that it is very close to the type specimen of M. quetzaltocatl, but does differ slightly. This might be due to the fact that the type specimen was found in Baja California, quite a distance from Arizona, USA, and there could be population differences. so it should be called Misumenoides nr. quetzaltocatl. (But it is very close to the type specimen.) In her description of the species, Jimenez says, "The specific name is derived from the Nahuatl word "quetzalli" which means green and beautiful plumage" and "tocatl" which means"spider" . The name denotes the green coloration
of this species."

This spider was crawling on my neighbor's driveway. It was approximately 2-4 inches long. The overall color of the spider was reddish-brown. On the back of the spider, there is a black pattern that extends to the head. The legs of the spider are long (relative to the body) and skinny. It looks like the spider is hairy.
These spiders can be found in open grasslands and fields, suburban backyards, wooded areas, wet coastal forests, and in vegetation along streams, lakes and marshes. Wolf spiders will sometimes burrow in the ground.
