This single individual was found on a shale barren outcrop. A small piece of it was collected, specimen #F16SCH02-13.

The closeup shows a broken branch with a flexible cord inside, which should confirm this as an Usnea.

Approximate location. Both p huronensis and aquilonis have been in this spot; aquilonis is smaller less robust stem flowers further apart, less flowers, flowers are more frosty green, huronensis more darker standard green. At this time huronensis would be completely past flowering

Growing on a steep, dry/barren slope. Habitat seems wrong (too open/dry) for M. uniflora but the pedicel length is somewhat intermediate between uniflora and bayardii (though habitat seems to match bayardii very well).
