Covered in vine
Apparent first record for campus
Caught in a mesh trap out in Calusa swamp
Saw gopher tortoise in my yard around 8 am on 5/4/2018 and then saw dead one (see photo) in the street that afternoon. I assume it is the same tortoise.
The tail looked contrastingly red compared to the rest of the body.
Update. I've changed my observation to Canyon Spotted Whiptail (subadult based on Reptiles of Arizona pic https://reptilesofaz.org/wp-content/uploads/Lizards/ASPBUR-2005.jpg).
The contrastingly brown tail should exclude Grassland and Sonoran Spotted. I'm a beginner on lizard identification but couldn't find any literature mentioning brown tails on the any species other than Canyon Spotted.
