Claw found in garden bed
Was surprised to find it in a stream with very little water just south of Arthur River at an altitude of about 200m
In shallow rapids in berry with larvae. Returned to water asap
Released it where I caught it
Likely young-of-year? Excavated from ~10 cm down. Reed canary grass meadow marsh, floods in spring to hip-height, isolated vernal area. Must have been colonized an earlier year from nearby overland movement
Smaller immature one
Probably Digger Crayfish? Wondering if this is in range of the other terrestrial species. Habitat might not be appropriate though
About a dozen out within the flooded meadow (all submerged). Air temp 5C, assuming water temp about the same.
This female had the most developed young. Most others still had eggs under their tail
Gill sample collected for DNA work.
