Amaea thielei
Locality: Gochang, North Jeolla Province, South Korea
Collected by Sunghee Yoon
SL: 17.7mm. SW: 6.5mm

Commonly distributed in West Sea and South Sea of Korea, I was able to find quite many populations of A. thielei; mostly dead in low tide. This specimen was collected by Sunghee Yoon who had been collecting Korean wentletraps from West Sea. This is the only live collected A. thielei specimen from Korea I’ve seen so far. The sculpture contains numerous delicate vertical varicose and fine intersecting horizontal ridges. Protoconch smooth and brownish. Operculum light yellow.

Acrilla acuminata
Locality: Gochang, North Jeolla Province, South Korea
SL: 29.8mm. SW: 8.4mm.

Acrilla acuminata lives widely in South Korea from west
sea to south sea. Although they are densely distributed
in West Sea(it's part of Yellow Sea), a few individuals
were found in Wando, and Jindo. The shell is brown in
color with brighter horizontal band on the spires. Fine
white vertical ribs are located densely and the shell is
very thin and fragile. Protoconch and columella are
white. It's hard to get decent specimen on the beach
due to their fragile shells. I've only once collected live
speicmen under rock in the intertidal zone from Taean.

Description

Acrilla acuminata
Locality: Cheongsando, Wando, South Jeolla Province, South Korea
South Korea
SL: 28.9mm. SW: 7.3mm.

Among the specimens of A. acuminata I've collected so
far, I've noticed that two types of shells are presented;
one with thin horizontal band and another with wide
horizontal band. Most of West Sea specimens had wide
band while most of South Sea specimens had thin band
on the shell like the shell in this photo. I've seen two
types also presented in A. acuminata from China and
Taiwan on internet but I'm not sure how each type is
distributed. This specimen from Cheongsando has
slimmer shell with strong coatae. It's interesting to see
different phenotypes presented in different
environments.
