Saw this out by my front porch. It was big so i thought it may have been one of those giant wasp that was making headlines in dc a while ago. But i dont think the colors match up since the google. This one has a bit more mahogney red color rather then black.

Description

A medium sized black-coloured fly spotted resting on a tree leaf. This Hybos Dance Fly has long slender abdomen and a "hump" on the thorax. The head is small with relatively large red eyes. The hind pair of legs are thicker than the other limbs. It may look like a Robber fly but it is not from the same family - Asilidae.
