Locally common in Mato (Homalium acuminatum) pua (Fagraea berteroana) slope forest (at ecotone between slope and cloud forest)
Uncommon shrub to small tree growing in pua (Fagraea berteroana) / neinei (Fitchia speciosa) forest on steep basalt tor. Although widespread this species is now not very common on Rarotonga.
Locally common along ridgeline where the mid-slope Mato (Homalium acuminatum) forest gives way to pua (Fagraea berteroana) / neinei (Fitchia speciosa) forest. One of the larger populations of this species seen in the July 2010 IUCN sponsored Rarotongan Cloud Forest Endemic Plant Survey
Growing on stream bed - more prominent in partial shade
