You will question my suggested identification when you glance quickly at the white “punctuation” mark on the underside of this butterfly’s hindwing. But I think you will agree that the pattern of black marks on the upperside of the forewings suggests that this butterfly is a Comma rather than a Question Mark. Another factor is the shape of the outer margin of the hindwings and the length of the tails on the hindwings.
This butterfly was one of several such butterflies that we encountered on a walk along the David Balfour Park Trail during a sunny break on an otherwise cloudy and very humid summer morning.

Eating my Asclepias incarnata. Doing its thing on this insufferable hot day. Didn’t have the an osmeterium, which I tried to provoke through disturbance. I would assume that it has to necessarily be a monarch (Danaus) based upon the fact it’s eating a Asclepias.
