Observer

beachcomber657

Date

December 2018

Description

Found on Forsters Beach. Best guess that this is S. Cultrata as it looks similar to the sample on the Molluscs of Tasmania site and this species is found there too. The sample on the Atlas of Australia site does not look the same though so my identification may not be correct.

Magnificent Cuttlefish (Ascarosepion opiparum)

Observer

beachcomber657

Date

December 2018

Description

Nowhere near as numerous as other species washing up on the Scotts Head beaches. Deep salmon on dorsal surface with a distinct central rib, rough to the touch (because of the delicate curved ribbing. Ventral surface lacks the groove(s) common to some other species. Quite friable - the large one cracked of its own accord. Found on Forsters Beach.
