According to http://myfwc.com/wildlifehabitats/profiles/reptiles-and-amphibians/reptiles/gopher-tortoise/ , this species shares the same oblong shell shape which is grey and tan in color. It is also in an area where there is lots of low vegetation and shady trees like the website says that gopher tortoises reside in. They are also found in areas that are sandy so that they can dig burrows and this area was very sandy.
