Found near Central Butte SK near a saline environment. Perennial Shrub, alternate grey-green leaves. Pistillate flowers.

phyllaries in 2 series, inner with dark crimson margins.

Could be palustris. Plant was ~24” high. Observed in the forest understory of the Crazy Mountains at about 7000’.

Highland Glen Park by the stream.

Observed at Highland Glen Park. Identification based on the overlapping leaf sheath and the long, kinked awns. Also conferencing with a local expert.

Present on most hilltops in Highland Glen Park. Not super confident on the ID but giving it my best shot!

Very open panicle. Observed covering large portions of Highland Glen Park. The leaves were very dense and held the snow nicely! Hard to ID for sure because the inflorescences were in poor condition.

Observed on drinking horse mountain trail, just off the side of the trail. I would consider it to be a fairly heavily disturbed area.

Observed on Priest Butte in Teton County, MT, typically in wind disturbed areas at the top of the butte or on the cusp of hill descents.

Observed near the top of Priest Butte in Teton County, MT. A windy area with lots of other grasses. This specimen was tucked along a walking path and was one of the less common species observed.

Observed at about 7000’ in the Crazy Mountains.
