What

Arcadia Velvet Gecko (Oedura lineata)

Observer

spookpadda

Date

February 5, 2022 09:26 PM AEST

Description

Subadult on mature Acacia harpophylla in Brigalow woodland RE 11.9.5 on a low stony rise with scattered Eucalyptus populnea. This site is the type locality of this species. Occurring from 1-10+m up on mature Acacia harpophylla (both this individual and others). This species is a narrow endemic and was recently listed as Critically Endangered under the Qld Nature Conservation Act. It appears to be confined to remnant and advanced regrowth Brigalow vegetation within the Arcadia Valley, part of the upper Dawson catchment from Rolleston to Lonesome, flanked by the Expedition and Carnarvon ranges. This is topotypic (at the locality from which the species was described). Why O. lineata? The dark lateral band on the face does not extend to the fore-arm, ocelli markings on the nape are discontinuous, paired ocelli form two rows along the dorsum. Co-occurring species in the same niche were: Gehyra catenata, G. dubia, O. lineata, O. elegans (in order of abundance at the site).
