queens nest-searching, one in bottom left, other in top right under leaves
A queen flew by and quickly checked out some non-native flower buds in a formal garden near the church building then flew a few more yards to rocks and stayed in the sun, not moving, for about half an hour, allowing everyone in the group meeting to look at her. At some point she left the area.
I went to a large plum tree grove in a woodland above a trail at a park on the east side of Saint Paul. Unlike smaller nearby plum trees that mostly had buds it was headed toward full bloom, and after waiting and watching for about 5 minutes saw this one bumble bee queen visit it. There were lots of small bees visiting the flowers and a honey bee or two.
