Located on open thin sandy soil over rock along paths to Sunset Rocks, Taconic State Park, Copake, NY.
A sample of this lichen was collected under special permit from the OPRHP, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, and sent to the New York Botanical garden in NYC. It was identified by Dr. James C. Lendemer as:
Cetraria arenaria Kärnefelt
and retained in the Steere Herbarium. Sample SSR1001, catalogNumber 04000607
