Description

5 fused petals and 5 fused sepals. Pistil and stamens hidden inside the the corolla tube, not visible from outside. 4 stamens biseriate. Leaves are simple and pubescent.

Description

Padre's shooting star at Rancho Mission Viejo preserve. Basal rosette and white corolla with 5 petals. In a coastal sage scrub landscape that had been burned last summer. This particular siting was on a slope.

Herb with simple leaves, resembling basal rosette. 4 white petals apopetalous and 4 sepals aposepalous. Sepals arching back away from the flower. 8 stamens with yellow anthers. Stigma parted 4 ways.

Annual bulb with 3 sepals and 3 petals. Also 3 stamens and a 3 parted stigma - all indications of a monocot. Purple anthers and purple stigma. Petals are pubescent on the inner side close to the gynoecium. Leaves are linear with parallel veins.
