Mottled Darner is listed as common in the Queen’s University Biological Station odonate list complied by Mark Conboy, Bruce Smith and others. I have seen the species here before several times. Sorry I didn’t take any side thorax shots as it flew shortly after taking these 2 shots.

Is it possible to tell whether this is a Broad-winged or a Red-shouldered Hawk from these bad photos? It was flying way up high with some TUVUs and RTHAs. We initially thought BWHA because the chest looked more barred and the tail bands looked fairly heavy. However, the translucent crescents in the wing primaries suggest RSHA.
