Pine flatwoods. Rugose achene with antrorsely (I'm quite sure) barbed bristles, 1.7mm long below tubercle which is conic and stands out at edges. Leaves 3.5-4mm wide, flat.

Roadside, dry pineland. Cespitose, culm 2m, triangular in cross-section, 2mm thick. Basal leaves 25cm x 4mm, curly, old leaves retained. Few cauline leaves. Inflorescence is numerous turbinate clusters of <10 spikelets on stiff branches. Bract exceeds inflorescence slightly except on the terminal one. Spikelets dark brown, fat, 3.5mm long, 2 fruits per spikelet, easy to shuck. Achene lenticular, somewhat flattened, rugose, 1.8mm x .5mm + 0.6mm conical tubercle constricted below base. Bristles reach halfway up achene body.
