Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis)

Observer

Description

Large bird, white belly mostly light brown almost red looking body. Also saw one of these very similar looking in the Beaches Ravine a few weeks ago. Not sure the exact species of bird, perhaps a hawk of some kind? Or a falcon? Identified this by closely looking at the photo where you can see it’s red tail, also when I took the photo and it took flight I could see the red in its tail. It has a wingspan of up to 52 inches and a body which can grow up to be 22 inches and weigh up to 3 pounds (Lyman, 2020). This sounds like a red tailed hawk after doing research on the size of this bird as well as the colour of its tail.

Heard the sound of something hitting the wood in a quick repetitive way. It was across the creek but it looked white and grey and black with the black mask around it’s eyes
