This Pholis ornata or Saddleback Gunnel, about 4" long, was under a rock at low tide. It wriggled intensely for a few seconds before settling down. It seems to have a protective covering that keeps it moist at low tide.
Berthella chacei was located on reef at a depth between 20-60 feet. Length was not measured. Water temperature was 46 degrees F.
