Magical Moth Night at the Heard - July 27th - need volunteers with Moth Set ups or that can help ID

We are going to be doing another moth night at the heard where we will set up mothing stations around a trail .. This will be from around 8pm to 11pm or later for those of us volunteering if we want to stay. I'm looking for people with equipment (any kind) that can set up mothing stations or help ID and education the public on what appears on the sheets. We did this last year and had a lot of fun. I'm also plan to show some live caterpillar moths and besides the hornworms I can get at the reptile store and interested in any easy to find caterpillar species. For example if you know a good plant I can usually find them on, etc.

If you are interested in helping, let me know. Note that this request is for moth volunteers as otherwise it is a fee event for the Heard. If you want to attend to help, please let me know. If you want to sign up just to attend and participate in all the other activities, you can got to http://www.heardmuseum.org/heardafterhours for registration.

Please add on anyone you think might be interested. We are thinking we can do 10 or more stations this year. Note that this is only part of the event going on. If we have a good group, we can meet earlier and do some inat on the grounds. More about the Heard here: www.heardmuseum.org.

Right now I've signed up @sambiology and me but hoping others that came last year can also attend.

@kimberlietx , @amymonroy , @annikaml ,@wildcarrot ,@katethegreat , @schylerbrown, @jblinde , @d-cntrbry

I put a few of you on, but figure same will post something when it gets closer for all the events. You can add others.

@brentano @cameralenswrangler @galactic_bug_man @k8thegr8 @daniel112 @tadamcochran -- I'm sure there are some other mothing folks that may be interested as well!

I think I can work something out. That is summer after all and I am pretty much free.

I would love to come, it was so much fun last year. Unfortunately, I will be out of the country. :-(

I'll put it on my calendar! I have a blacklight set up I can bring, and can help others set up. My moth ID skills aren't great, but I can help ID any spiders that we come across... :D

I've got it on my calendar! Not sure if I'll have my set up or not. I'll know more when it gets closer.

@annikaml Seriously?! sigh Haven't we discussed you running your travel schedule through the group BEFORE you book?!

What!?! I thought it was the other way around - you are all supposed to consult with me BEFORE you organize anything even remotely moth related!!

But since we are on this topic, all I can say is that Moth Week events HAVE to happen before July 23rd!

Unfortunately I have a prior commitment. I will check back if it changes.

I was sorry to not make it last year. So I'll put it on my calendar for this year and plan to attend with my limited set up in tow.

I have one setup I can bring. I've got it on my calendar. I'll go over and sign up at the Heard also.
Yay!

I'm a maybe. This far out it's hard to tell.

Ok .. give me an update if you are coming.. No need to respond if you are not. I want to get a headcount. So far I have the following:
Me @butterflies4fun , @sambiology @k8thegr8 ,@tadamcochran, @brentano ,

Melissa Duron (via Sam)

For those coming, I'm doing a presentation at 8pm for 45 minutes and then the people will be able to explore the museum or go on trail walks. You can get there around 7pm or after to set up or whenever you can. There are electrical outlets but bring extension cord if you have one. If you have a battery, then you can set up anywhere. We had a lot of fun last year and got to also see some cool bugs and other creatures. Weather looks good. My Number is 972-814-3903 for any questions or if the gate it shut for some reason when you get there... They may close it until closer to start time.

Sam, I normally hand out the flyer with the shape of bugs, do you have a good guide I could have them print for one of the stations? I know you have one on inat, but do you have it in a PDF or anything?

Definitely planning to come. Hoping to come up early enough to do some daytime exploring since I've never been before.

I won't be making it this year, but hope you guys find lots of cool stuff out there!
