Spring songs return.

Heard the red-winged blackbirds and robins singing this morning. Feels like the first day of school.

Carolina Wrens

Carolina Wrens are like crickets . . . very easy to hear, very difficult to photograph . . .

Observing the Future

I just realized my camera didn't adjust for the end of DST. My observation timestamps are ahead of my upload timestamps. I have been posting into the future.

Experimenting with geographic filters in iNaturalist

Today I discovered that there is an entire section dedicated to the Passaic Basin Freshwater Wetlands in New Jersey, the main area I like to explore.

https://www.inaturalist.org/places/passaic-basin-freshwater-wetlands

And there is also a section for the New Jersey Inner Coastal Plain.

https://www.inaturalist.org/places/new-jersey-inner-coastal-plain

And the Pinelands in the Outer Coastal Plain . . .

https://www.inaturalist.org/places/nj-pinelands-national-reserve-nj-us

And the entire Piedmont Uplands . . .

https://www.inaturalist.org/places/piedmont-uplands

I have been experimenting with the latitude and longitude coordinates in map URL's to create bookmarks of interest.

The Great Swamp and surrounding neighborhoods . . .

Cape May . . .
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?nelat=39.23&nelng=-74.6&place_id=any&swlat=38.9&swlng=-75

A portion of southern New Jersey . . .

An area to track northern sitings of Carolina Chickadees . . . (I wonder if they will ever appear in the Passaic Basin.)
