Victoria Dive Observations June 26 2022

I traveled to Victoria on June 26, 2022 to do two dives - one at Brotchie Ledge, the second on the north shore of Albert Head. I haven't dove Brotchie Ledge since 1984 or 1985, and Albert Head since 1995 or 1996.

The Brotchie ledge dive was west of the light, in the historical garbage spoil area. My dive partner and I were bottle collecting, but observed a wrinkled star and many giant acorn barnacles (which tend to use the old bottles as an anchoring substrate).

The dive at Albert Head highlighted a reduced population of swimming (pink and spiny) scallops. We observed two occupied giant Pacific octopus dens. The litter of each included fresh crab, and some cockles, but very few fresh scallops. I observed 7 striped sun stars and 1 sunflower sun star during the short dive. There were two blue plastic gloves in the rocks at Albert Head - these were of the type used by urchin fishers.
