40-odd years ago I got a couple degrees in plant ecology, with lots of courses and field trips in taxonomy, plant geography, bryophytes, etc., etc. Since then I have had an eclectic career, and somewhat early retirement due to a dratted inherited neurological problem, not life-threatening but a real nuisance. Lack of balance makes getting down to photo a tiny plant, and back up again, a challenge! With iNat it's a real joy to be able to combine the discovery mode of field trips, at my own glacial pace, with the connection of an online community.
