I worked for 13 years at the California Academy of Sciences, as the co-Director of the the Center for Biodiversity & Community Science, collaborating with the public to together share knowledge about, document, and conserve biodiversity in California and beyond. I also co-founded the City Nature Challenge with @lhiggins and @rebeccafay. Before this, I was working with the Farallones Marine Sanctuary Association, running a long-term coastal monitoring program. I also spent six years as an environmental educator at an outdoor school in the Santa Cruz mountains.
I currently serve on the Board of iNaturalist.
My background is in intertidal invertebrates but I also have a great fondness for algae, birds, and wildflowers. I spend inordinate amounts of time in the tidepools, and in my pottery studio.
