I am a professional biologist at the university of Tuebingen in Germany. After episodes of watching birds, research on dragonflies, flatworms, earthworms and sea slugs, I started diving in the Indopacific, Red Sea and Mediterranean. Over the years, I grew into an enthusiastic underwater photographer. When discovering that some reef fish fluoresce in 2007, I stopped using a strobe for UW photography (it blends out the natural fluorescence). Instead, I learned to use manual white balance and colour correcting filters. For me, the goal is not a technically perfect picture, but a picture that shows a fish how a human diver sees it. With its focus on field identification, iNaturalist is therefore a perfect home for my observations.
