I’ve been a chemistry professor at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota since 1985. My interests in botany go back to childhood, and were developed mostly in North Carolina, south Georgia, and Florida.

My favorite local botanizing spots in Minnesota are the Scientific and Natural Areas in the DNR system (mainly those in southern Minnesota due to logistics). Other natural areas (county, city, and state parks, other DNR properties) have been great, as well. I also enjoy exploring sites in southwest Georgia and the Florida Panhandle when I’m visiting relatives in Georgia.

The profile photo is of Dwarf Trout Lily (Erythronium propullans), Minnesota's only endemic flowering plant. It occurs in only three counties in the southeastern part of the state.
