Botany professor at the University of Southern Mississippi (USA). Research focused on tropical relatives of willows and cottonwoods (now the plant families Salicaceae and Achariaceae, formerly Flacourtiaceae). Field work mainly in Central and South America, but time abroad on Fulbright Scholar awards to Serbia (2011-2012) and Zambia (2021-2022).
