Description
This is 3rd posting of Black Squirrel from my backyard feeder. The three observations were from 2008 to 2011. I am trying to locate earlier pics as well as I think there has been a black squirrels showing up for more that 10 years. One was drowned in a neighorbor's hot tub several years ago so there is more than one althought I have never seen more than one at any observation. To provide size estimate the Feeder is 18" x 14" and 2.5" deep

Two pairs each in their own nest. Allopreening and male shaking his beak at female. Nests located on College Place (at intersection of College Crossing). Nests are in side-by-side trees on south side of the street.
In 2021, I counted at least 14 nests on both sides of this street and a block east of here.
https://ebird.org/checklist/S85950553. I did not realize I missed checking this street in 2022 and 2023. :(
All other sightings YTD (2024) in Norfolk have been with 1-2 birds. This is first report with 4 birds.
Norfolk’s high count for this species was 64 birds in Oceanview in May 2018: https://ebird.org/atlasva/checklist/S66187798

Believe this is the individual suggested to be a E.caerulea x thula hybrid, but personally not under that impression. Thinking this guy is just an unusual-looking juvenile little blue.

Old Mill Dam was removed just two weeks before this visit. That action should eventually expand darter habitat, but bank stabilization will present a major challenge over the short term.
