Description
Witches' broom (1st pic) on branches of a hackberry tree (2nd pic) at Horseshoe Cove. Brooms caused by a powdery mildew fungus (Sphaerotheca phytoptophila) and a minute, wormlike, eriophyid mite (Eriophyes celtis, synonym Aceria snetsingeri) about 200 microns long http://ipm.illinois.edu/diseases/series600/rpd662/

Description
Inquiline Mordellistena beetle that emerged July 2022 from gall in Artemisia vulgaris (see https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/149356112 for gall type) collected on 13 January 2022. Specimen will be sent out for DNA barcoding in March 2023. Collected from the bowl pasture at Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture.

Description
Clung to the beak of a Whimbrel that was foraging in the seaweed, the bird could not dislodge it, after a couple of minutes the isopod dropped off. The Whimbrel continued to feed with the isopod on board.

On edge of Jack Pine Plantation just outside of Grayling, Mi. Could not locate in either Butterflies of Michigan or Swift Gd to Butterflies. Puddling with a group of Blues and Skippers but lone sighting.
