Description

The larger leaved plants that are low to the ground are Teaberry, or American winterberry (Gautheria procumbens).

The plant I am identifying is a small shrub with smaller leaves. Kalmia buxifolia, or sand myrtle, is growing in the sandy soil of the Pine Barrens (here, in Brendan T. Byrne State Forest).
