Michael K. Oliver holds both a B.A. and an M.A. in biology from Occidental College and a Ph.D. in biology from Yale. Recently retired from a career in Big Pharma, he now joyfully devotes more time to his long-standing primary interest: the taxonomy of African cichlid fishes (especially those of Lake Malawi, to whose fauna he has added two new genera and 13 new species to date). He is currently a Curatorial Affiliate in Vertebrate Zoology at Yale's Peabody Museum of Natural History. A strong secondary interest is beetles; his personal general collection of Coleoptera, chiefly from Connecticut, includes around 13,000 specimens. His life-long biophilia was given a stimulating new outlet when he found iNaturalist.org.
