Welcome to Butterflies of the Pend d'Oreille Valley

This project tracks butterfly sightings within the Pend d'Oreille region of southern British Columbia. The area of study follows the Pend d'Oreille River that parallels the northern border of the United States; the westernmost area of study being the Waneta Dam, and easternmost area of study being the Pend Oreille Road, via Nelway, British Columbia. NOTE: If you wish to contribute a sighting to "Pend d'Oreille Butterflies" you can join our project under Community/Projects. After joining, you can add sightings to the project via your Projects field.

Hi Paul...Bob here from Edmonton. I spent 3 days in the Pend d`Oreille last 3 days in July. My first visit and not my last!! Found some great thistle areas in the valley so snagged some great Speyeria..
I had been in the Rock Creek area for a week so making my way home!

Hope we can connect,

best Bob/Edmonton Nature Club

Bob, that's great. By all means, if you have any photos to add to our INaturalist and our project, that would be very welcome.

Any luck with Oreas Comma around Rock Creek?

Hi Paul...good to hear from you again. Sorry to say I am not the greatest photographer so limited photos. Lousy equuipment.
I did not come across any Oreas Comma and my search for Mormon Fritillary was a bust, looking for the subspecies. I could not believe there were none out..I have the St Jean report.
Can you remind me please how I find the Pend Oreille report on I Nat.

For those wishing to enter sightings for this region, please note that you must manually add your sighting to our project via the Project Text Box. Type in "Pend d'Oreille Butterflies" to find the project. You can always leave a message for us as well.

Sorry to say that my July visit to the valley was a bust. Hot and dry, road east from 7 mile dam was virtually impassable.

NOTE: The oldest entry for this project is from 1997, by Norbert Kondla.
