Butterflying the Pend Oreille - July 2, 2022

Went in search of butterflies in the Pend Oreille, starting from the Nelway border crossing and venturing west as far as the logging road that follows the Salmo River up to the power lines. About 12 km. Logged 28 species.

Species tally: Western Tiger Swallowtail (55); Pale Swallowtail (59), Cabbage White (2), Julia Orangetip (3), Silvery Blue (1), Boisduval's Blue (7), Euphilotes Heracleoides (2), Western Tailed-Blue (4), Purplish Copper (1), Great Spangled Fritillary (2), Anicia Checkerspot (40), Northern Checkerspot (12), Mourning Cloak (6), Lorquin's Admiral (24), Milbert's Tortoiseshell (1), Green Comma (9), Rosner's Hairstreak (3), Gray Hairstreak (1), Western Pine Elfin (1), Brown Elfin (1), Northern Crescent (30), Common Ringlet (5), Dreamy Duskywing (2), Pacuvius Duskywing (1), Persius Duskywing (1), Western Arctic Skipper (1), Common Checkered-Skipper (1), Common Roadside-Skipper (11)
